1991 Stocker&Yale 490 Field Watch

MIL-W-46374E Type 1. NSN 6645-00-066-4279. Dec 1991 Contract. ETA 2801-2 17-jewel, hacking 28,800 bph movement. Olive drab nylon 1-piece strap.

The standard 1.5mm flat crystal has been replaced by a 2.0mm double-domed crystal. The crown is a generic type; the original was worn down and hard to grip while winding.

Another view of the new crown, shown in setting position. The small plug that allows access to the stem removal pin was missing and has been replaced by a small size '0' screw.

The double-domed crystal has greatly improved the readability of this watch from all angles and seems to be much clearer than the flat crystal, probably because it is new.

The seconds hand tip was lumed with modern luminous non-tritium paint. Never really understood why the military stopped requiring luminous seconds hands.
This is one of my favorite military watches to wear, probably due to it's personalization - especially the crystal. The watch is a light 25g including the strap. It is 40mm wide including the crown, 39½mm tall and 13mm thick.
