1940's Hamilton "Gilman"
Silvered dial with 18K gold applied hour numerals, seconds subdial and railroad-track minutes chapter. 18K gold sword-style hour and minute hands. Hamilton Cal. 982M USA-made "Medallion" 19-jewel top-of-the-line rectangular movement. Solid 14K yellow gold rectangular case with snap-on back. Vintage brown 19mm tapered pigskin strap.
Shown here over a 1940 "National Geographic" magazine ad, the watch cost $100 back then. Looks like a pigskin strap was correct for that year.
It lives in this nice Hamilton box which, unfortunately, is not the original. The watch is taller than the usual rectangular watch at just over 42mm (lug to lug) and is 21mm wide excluding the crown.
